Last 03 July, it was our pleasure to attend the HK Observatory’s Liaison Meeting with the shipping community. This is an annual meeting during which the observatory staff update representatives from HK based ship owners, managers and terminal operators with the latest developments from the world of meteorological observations.

During the meeting, the Observatory briefed the shipping community of the new services launched this year, such as the “Extended Outlook” and “Hong Kong Lightning Nowcast” service.

The Observatory also uses this event to recognise the contribution of the Masters and bridge watchkeeping officers who take and send in weather observations from what are known as Voluntary Observing Ships.

There are now a total of 65 Voluntary Observing Ships registered with the HK Observatory and CLSICO was very proud to receive Diamond Awards (500 observations or more submitted during calendar year 2016) on behalf of the Dapeng Sun, Dapeng Moon, Min Lu and Shen Hai. Only 4 Diamond Awards were presented and CLSICO ships took them all, great job you guys!!!!

In addition to the Observatory’s appreciation and recognition, we would also like to thank our Masters and bridge watchkeeping officers for their diligence and commitment in assisting the Observatory to produce accurate weather forecasts for HK and surrounding waters that benefit the whole marine community.
