For the second year in a row, CLSICO was invited to participate in the Duty of Care Conference jointly organised by the Employers Federation of HK and the International SOS Foundation.
This conference is particularly interesting for us as following a morning covering general topics on the duty of care that employers have towards their staff, the afternoon breaks up into smaller groups, one of which is a Maritime Track.
This year’s Maritime Track heard presentations from Skuld P&I, BW Shipping and Anglo Eastern. The topic presented by CLSICO was Seafarer Wellness – Mental Health Issues, more of which you will see if you attend our Fleet Officer Meetings this year.
The event ended with a panel discussion covering topics such as Social Media onboard – a blessing or a curse?, How has the Hong Kong Shipowners Association engaged with regulatory bodies and its membership on the subject of crew welfare?, It is the job of flag states to monitor MLC. Has there been a record of infringements? And to what extent can a shipowner’s crew welfare policy, or lack of it, prejudice a seafarer’s claim under the P&I cover?
