The Shen Hai, is the first LNG ship owned by Shanghai LNG shipping Co Ltd. She was formally delivered from Hundong-Zhonghua shipyard to her owner on the 20th September 2012. Both the sea and gas trials of the Shen Hai had been successfully and safely completed, thanks to the hard work and professionalism of all involved. Many lessons had been learned from the previous five ships’ delivery and the process went very smoothly.

The Shen Hai left the shipyard on the morning of the 27th Septemberand there was an air of anticipation onboard whilst the final preparations for departure were completed. With the pilots onboard and a riding squad of technicians from the shipyard, along with a camera crew from CCTV on the quayside, the ship was ready to depart. The Shen Hai left Hudong-Zhonghua shipyard at 1030. The sounding of the ship’s whistle heralded the slipping of the moorings and the ringing of the first engine movement under CLSICO management. The shipyard and site team from CLNG waved from the quayside deafened by the cacophony of Chinese celebratory fireworks. The mood onboard was emotional and felt by ship’s staff and yard personnel alike.

Following the cool down and loading of heel, the ship sailed from Yang Shan on the 9th October 2012 for her maiden voyage to Bintulu, arriving at berth number 2 on the 15th October. Her arrival, after an uneventful passage south, was celebrated by the blowing of the ship’s whistle for the spectators waiting for her arrival.
